Put on your Mom Jeans...

Source

When I was a teenager wearing low rise jeans was all the rage. In fact, the lower the rise the better. I specifically remember one pair of jeans with a zipper that was a flippin' inch long.

Those days are over. I am now 26 years old and I own Mom Jeans. My friend and I went shopping recently and to my surprise, I was all about the high waisted pants. H&M had a great pair of denim jeans and after trying them on I fell in love. Figure flattering? I'm not sure. Comfortable? Definitely. I swear I'm not trying to sound like the SNL skit, but they're from H&M so they have to be trendy... Right?

So what are your thoughts, trendy or trashy?

  1. I think only certain girls can pull off the highwaisted look, and it has to be done correctly! In highschool I was all about low cut jeans! I had a pair so low I called them my plumber jeans and my mom hated me wearing them, she said it look like my cooch was about to pop out! I am definately out of that stage now!!

  3. When they are tight fitted like the image, so totally trendy. It's when you see images like this ----http://reasonswhyimstillsingle.files.wordpress.com/2011/06/mom-jeans.jpg ---- that we put the ban on them. lol

I think you're rocking them mighty fine, so no worries!

  4. I'm with you on this one. They are super cute with the right top. I think the "mom jeans" that I remember my mom wearing were not flattering at all... but these styles have the right amount of stretch. I love them in skinny or a small boot cut :)

  5. High wasted and mom jeans are totally different species. These in the picture are high wasted, sooo not mom jeans! Mom jeans SAG!

    1. Agreed! I have some high waisted flared jeans that I LOVE...but they are most definitely not Mom jeans. I was in jr. high when the low rise because THE JEAN TO WEAR but as an adult (or whatever it is I am) I am kind of over it and moving towards higher rises.

    2. I call them Mom Jeans because they are super high with a long zipper and make your but look like an egg, although I know they aren't the saggy jeans that were featured on the SNL skit!

  6. high waisted jeans look fabulous on a certain body type. I don't feel like I can pull them off. I don't have much hips and I have a small tush so when I wear pants like that I feel like it makes my ass look long. Lol. Not flattering for me but I wish i could pull them off!

  7. Well, mom jeans can never be called "trashy" haha! As I get older, I go for more versatile, classic, and comfortable pieces. I used to wear 3 inch stilletos every day when I was in my early 20s. I used to manage Hollister/Abercrombie before I became a professor, so I had my fair share of low-rise jeans. I still wear them, but then I haven't bought jeans in about 4 years? So, I'm not sure what kind of a fit I would go for next time, but I'll never say never to mom jeans.

    1. I'm super into high waisted pants, I love the feel and the fit. As for high heels, I'll never stop wearing them because I know once I do, I might as well throw them all out. I am proud to say I can rock a high heel comfortably, I hope that doesn't change!

  8. I think it all depends on what you wear with them, and how they look on you, because some things no matter how great they make look on the hanger, they just look terrible on you, or vice versa! My prom dress looked horrible on the hanger, but when I put it on, it fit beyond perfectly, that can definitely true for mom jeans too! haha.

  9. The trick is the fit! High waist is uber sexy, flattering and CONSERVATIVE. High waist is NOT equivalent to the mom butt; the difference is in the fit. Look at the pic you have there... that, my dear, is no mom butt. Fitted legs and only loose in the butt? There's your mother rump.

  10. i feel like there's definitely a line. in the picture you posted, i'm not a huge fan. especially in that wash which many wear to be trendy.

however, high-waisted pants in general are extremely cute and figure-flattering! i have a couple pairs of high-waisted non-denim shorts and a couple of pairs of dressier pants that i love. i'm just not a fan of them being skin tight or falling off!

  11. oh my gosh! i totally remember the low rise, then the super low rise.. and then my favorite... the dangerously low rise from hollister co.? or was it abercrombie? either way.. i was quite obsessed with low rise jeans back in the day, and now i can't even fathom why girls STILL wear them... i like to think of it as the "oh, hey, look at me"-high school phase... but i love high-waisted pants now! even while jean shopping... i remember one salesgirl asked me, "are you sure you want those? they're regular rise..." and i'm like OH YES.. i'll take two! haha!

    1. I totally know what you mean, when I was buying these jeans the girl was like, "Did you try this on? Just making sure because they are pretty high in the waist!"

  12. They can look trendy or trashy, depending on how the person is wearing them. The picture above put "pretty woman" in my mind, which also brings to mind sexy! As long as you can pull them off, then wear the hell out of them girl and feel good wearing them!

  13. Hey...if they're from H&M, they are trendy! My maturnity clothes are all from there and it makes me feel so much better about life lol. I agree with the girls who talk of the difference between mom jeans and high waisted ones. Mom jeans DESTROY any ass you might have. High waisted ones somehow magicaly accentuate :)

  16. I actually really like them but I do agree that they only work for certain body types. High waisted jeans can actually be really flattering on a lot of people!

  17. Lol I LOVE MOM JEANS. I hope it's not just because I'm a mom... haha but they're WAY more comfortable than always trying to make sure your BUTT crack isn't on display for the rest of the world!

  18. Dont be too quick to do anything too "old", I did at 25 and now at 37 I am afraid, that the days of wearing things that are young, that my choice to wear them ,are fast fading. Its hard to be the far side of 35 (for me) enjoy your youth
